Installment Payment Plan Information
In the state of Florida, taxes are based on a calendar year and billed in arrears. The statements are mailed in November and you have until March 31st of the following year to pay without penalty.
Installment payments are the exception to the rule. The first payment is due June 30th and the last is March 31st of the following year. Applications are accepted from November through April 30th of each year.
The first two installment payments are based on the prior year's gross tax. This is done because the millage rates and other service fees are not proposed until late September each year. The first two payments are based on 1/4 of the prior year's gross tax amount, which includes applicable discounts.
Any changes that are made for the new tax roll in November, which affects the gross tax amount, will be reflected on the December and March (3rd & 4th) installment tax bills. Examples would be: homestead exemptions, widow or disability exemptions, a change in value, millage or special assessment rates.
If you wish to be removed from the installment plan, once enrolled, just disregard the June tax bill. This will automatically remove you from the plan. You will then receive a bill in November for the gross amount.
